Boxelder Bug Control: Toronto, Durham, and York Region
Length is about 12.5 millimetres (0.49 in). Colour is Dark Brown or Black. Red Wing markings. Like its name suggests, the boxelder bug is a pest that lives primarily in the namesake box elder tree. However, they feed on the leaves of maple and ash tress as well in warmer seasons and then seek the insides of homes as the weather turns colder. These bugs are black with red ‘stripes’ along the sides and the thorax.
The eggs are laid in the tree species described above. They molt through several different stages before they become adults. Knowing as much as possible about their life cycles is important to efficient Toronto pest control. The colour of these eggs is usually rust-red or even brown so they are easily camouflaged against the backdrop of the host tree. These eggs usually hatch after only a few days and the resulting nymphs are very similar in appearance to the adults but of course much smaller.
